Off to the Rams Game

Need More News

As you can see from the pictures, there was a lovely Thanksgiving here in St. Louis.  We're  still eating ham and turkey and duck and may have leftovers from the dinner again  tonight.  Brayden refused to try the duck.

Our hairdresser came yesterday and cut my hair.   She tends all three of us, but comes    here to the house to cut mine.  Shelly took Brayden hiking, I'm not sure where it was. On Saturday  my helper brought her son who is about the same age as Bray. They spent some time together and really got along well.

Beth went on to Kansas City to spend some time with her Grandmother on Friday.  Scott and Brayden and Chris and Shelly and Brayden are going to the Rams game today and Beth  is picking them up from there.   They''re not coming back here today.

Snowing Right Now

It's coming down snow but not supposed to amount to a lot.  Shouldn't affect our Thanksgiving at all.  Scott and Beth and Brayden are coming from Louisville and the snow should be gone by Thursday when they're going to travel  Chris and Shelly and Shelly's Mother and Uncle are joining us and all live locally.  Rose is at the hairdresser.

Better News Today

Scott went home last night and, as Beth put it, he is as good as new. I heard from him this morning. He and Beth and Brayden will come on over to St.Louis and have dinner with us on Thanksgiving but we didn't go past Thursday in our discussion.  Beth is from Kansas City and their original plans were to bring two cars so Beth could go on to K.C.  Scott will be off work until Monday,  and I don't know if their plans have changed.  I am just relieved.  Scott's birthday is Saturday, the 29th.

The Ferguson case is finally resolved but not to our liking.  We thought charges should have been made against the officer as there was no excuse for all the shots fired.  Ferguson is  not in Goldman's school district, but he does get the day off and he doesn't mind that.

Shirley is going to pick groceries from Whole Foods for Thanksgiving Dinner.   She  also has some clients.  Rose has some clients coming in.  She will probably go Schnuchk's too.  The BJEC Nurse is coming for her last visit.

No Good News

Scott had been suffering chest pain for a few days and went on Friday to see his physician who, in an abundance of caution, sent him to the hospital to be checked out.  He was checked out and checked in then because tests showed blockage to an artery of his heart.  Today he had angioplasty and a shunt.  Tonight he was discharged.  We are all very relieved!

I have physical therapy this afternoon after my visit to the podiatrist.  My helper is going to take me to the podiatrist because Rose has a dental appointment at the same time.  We may go out for lunch afterwards.

Again, it's raining and dreary outside this morning.  You might know on the day I can leave the house, it would be this way.

Thanksgiving

I think I have an ingrown toenail and have an appointment with a podiatrist tomorrow.  I hope digging it out isn't too painful.  I think my insurance will pay for the procedure  but if not, it will be worth the visit.

I can see out the living room window now better that it's been repaired and it's raining and very overcast.   I don't know when we're going to put up the Christmas tree but I guess sometime after Thanksgiving.  I think Shirley is picking up the turkey on Tuesday. She ordered it some time ago.

Ferguson Case

We're still waiting for the Grand Jury decision in the Ferguson case.  The St. Louis County courthouse where the decision will be announced  is about 6 blocks from here, and everyone is expecting trouble after the decision.  Tensions are high.

Pete and Janet called this morning as they always do on Saturday.  All is well in Idaho. We had a bad connection but they had read in the Family Gazette about the wound in my arm.  It is probably a result of some medication I am taking and is healing.

No one told me about me Denny's mother passing.  I saw the obituary which Rose posted earlier.  I had fallen away from the Boaz family since his death so I didn't go to the services.

Evelyn Boaz' Obituary

Sue's mother-in-law, Denny's mother, passed away on Thursday.  Her obituary:

Evelyn Laura Boaz

Friday Schedule

I believe we're getting new windows in the living room today but I'm not sure we've heard from the installer. Sis has a couple clients this afternoon and my helper is coming to assist me.  I'm not sure what Shirley's schedule is.  The BJEC nurse will arrive to assist my helper in bandaging my arm.  Everyone makes a bigger production of the healing but I'm getting well-at least my arm is.  The rest of me has a long way to go.

The only good thing about BJEC releasing me is that I can go to the lake house.  I'll still get outpatient therapy and someone will have to take me (which I hate), but it's nearby.  I do have an appointment with a podiatrist this Monday, and it's nearby.

Rose and Shirley keep me on the limited diet (lactose-free) that one of the doctors put me on.  They also eat this way, too.  Pete, Shirley does prefer rice over potatoes while Rose likes both.  I only like potatoes.

49th Anniversary of My Marriage to Brick

I had occupaitonal therapy today and did most of my exercises.  My helper came and assisted me with my exercises.   Chris came after work which was nice since I hadn't seen him in several days. Rose had lunch with an old high school friend, and both she and Shirley saw clients.

I would think the whole United  States has heard about Ferguson and the three of us think the officer should be indicted.  The court house where the grand jury decision will be announced isn't very far from where we live.

I will soon be ready to go back to the lake house.  Right now my insurance is paying for my therapies, but that will soon expire.  I will get additional therapy but as an out  patient.  I truly hate having to be driven places but have lots of volenteers.

This would have been the 49th anniversary of my marriage to Brick.

Routine

Just waiting for the BJC nurse to come and dress the wound on my arm and for my helper to arrive to assist me with my dressing, shower, physical therapy, and lunch.  Rose had her guitar lesson yesterday,  and I believe Shirley is going to grocery shop tomorrow.  I have been  staying inside.   It is COLD here.  Pete, no one has been to the Apple store this week.  Rose and I did meet Sabrina and Dave to go the Abbott gravesite on Sunday.  Margaret's tombstone had been installed recently.  It was cold then too, so I just stayed in the car.  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery is a beautiful place.

Had to take a break.  My helper, Marnette, arrived and and helped me.   Still waiting for the nurse.  Rose dresses the arm every other day, and she does a good job.  I have done the exercycycle 20 minutes for quite some time and have added quite a few other other "struggles" but have managed to do them on a daily basis.

Handle in Powder Room--needed handy tool

Chris gave me a battery powered screw driver recently. It came in very handy today for installing this handle

More Later When I News

As usual, we're waiting for Pete and Janet to call on Saturday morning.  We haven't had breakfast yet.  Just using our Apples,  Brother Pete.

Shirley's niece arrived on the train yesterday afternoon and Michael and Charlie picked her up at the depot.  I'm not sure what our plans are for the day but it is very cold outside.  I don't think they will go to zoo and feed the animals.

BJC Home Health Care

Shirley had to leave early this morning to see her eye doctor.  I saw the neurologist yesterday who is one of Rose and my favorite consultants.  He got us in early and even asked our opinion on things. There  was a neurologist also there who remembered Rose from their many conversations when I was so ill this summer.  Between the four of us, we decided to leave things as they are.  My illness is still a puzzle to them.

Shirley's nephew, Michael and great nephew Charlie, arrived yesterday evening.  Leslie is arriving on the train on a business trip today.  Charlie is 2 years old and extremely outgoing. They live in Louisiana.  I'm sure we'll post some pictures.  Chris stopped by last night and played football with Charlie.  I'm not sure who enjoyed it most.

Shirley is feeding the cat next door so is able to get her "fix" because she loves cats.

I'm not sure sure how long BJC Care Services--a nurse, physical therapist, and occupational therapist--will continue, but I do hope for sometime.  They have been so helpful.  We are looking for back-up help for Rose and Shirley.

APPLE

Pete teases us about going to the Apple Store often.  Sue, Shirley, and I have Apple notebooks, iPads, and iPhones  He is right.  We go for some lesson or consult about once a week.  Today I discovered I could use Apple Pay at Whole Foods.  With a brief click of my iPhone 6, I checked out, using my thumb print to verify the purchase.

WEDNESDAY EVENING

Nothing much new. Just exercises, physical therapy, occupational therapy, riding the exercise bicycle 20 minutes every day and walking  as much as I can. I went to a gatroenterologist (spelling?) yesterday.  She put me on a reduced lactose diet and a multiple vitamin, and did some blood work.  She wants to reduce the dosage of prednisone I am taking over time.

Goldman's birthday is today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK.  He stopped after school to pick up the card we had for him.  Mad Dog's Birthday is sometime this weekend, but we're not sure where he is so don't know where to send his card.

Sis is taking me to the neurologist tomorrow. Originally the appointment was scheduled for December, but the nurse called today with an opening I could make.

Stephanie is recovering from her shoulder surgery and will begin physical therapy soon.

Shirley's nephew and family will be in town over the weekend.  We are looking forward to their visit, especially to seeing the gorgeous two-year-old son.

Idaho Call

Saturday early and Pete's already called. I forgot to ask him if he had talked to Brother Joe earlier.  I think he was preoccupied with the chore facing him of raking leaves. We had ours done but more have fallen. I believe Janet does the correspondence and she probably just watches Pete out the window. That's what I do....

Rose is going to the Apple Store sometime today.  I think it's her first trip there this week. Occasionally we have to revert to the Gazette to see when things really did happen.

Stephanie's Surgery

I accidentally published when I didn't yet mean to.   Stephanie had surgery on her shoulder yesterday and was able to come come home yesterday.    She will have to have lots of therapy and wear a sling for some time.   Catrina called and told us today was going to be quite painful.  Stef's minister stayed with them until she went into surgery.  We need more specific information and will pass it along when we get it.
It's the coldest morning we've had this far according to the computer though I haven't been out to check.  Rose is practicing her guitar and Shirley has gone to Whole Foods to pick up a few items. The  garage door motor broke night before last but luckily someone got it repaired with one car out and one car in. It got fixed yesterday.  Costly but worthwhile with winter coming on.

Had to take a break because the physical therapist came and we did some exercises and she showed me some new ones.  A Martha's Hands helper is also here and the therapist showed her how to assist me with repetitive exercises.  The therapist stressed the importance of the repetition.  I'm trying.

I finally got in touch with the Maddens.  Mike got married in Italy and lives in the Kansas City area,  He said any of the Family who ventures that way to just let him know. They have plenty of room.  Mike sells the same cleaning/health product that Linda Orso sells, and we are advocates.  He still has his vineyard.  His brother Sean has a grocery store in Ozark. Aunt Virginia, their mother is the only one of that older generation left, and Mike sees her occasionally.

GoPro Camera

We've been wanting Scott to get a GoPro camera to attach to Brayden's forehead when he plays soccer.  The GoPro can actually stream live video so having one would be even better than attending a game.

Left and Right

Waiting for a call from the occupational therapist who's supposed to come this morning, and my helper from Martha's Hand's will be coming at eleven. The OT is just coming to check my progress with the therapy I've been having. She comes periodically.  I am diligent about my exercises, and just found out yesterday from the physical therapist that I was using two right handed splints and should be using left and right.  I've ask Chris if he can pick up the left one if he's in that area today.  He checked at Walgreen's but they don't carry splints.  The physical therapist also showed me a way to practice my handwriting so it's much more readable.  I still like the computer and it's legible, more so.

Rose and Shirley both have busy days today.  I'm hoping Chris can save her one stop.

Goldman's father-in-law had open heart surgery this week and it went even smoother than they had anticipated.  I'm not sure when he's getting out of the hospital.  It's a miracle what they can do these days.

ELECTION DAY

Sis and I already voted absentee since I was in BJEC and wasn't sure when I was going to get out--and if I would be able to go to the polls.  I did get out, but we still cast our votes ahead of time.  That was probably wise since physical therapy and occupational therapy are both coming today, and Martha's Hands will be assisting me.  Sis has a busy afternoon, too.

Our evening will be spent in front of the television watching the results of the midterm election.

Remember - GO VOTE.

Monday, November 3, 2014

I had dinner with Shelly and Chris last night.  Rose and Shirley went to a visitation of someone I didn't know so the Spreitlers brought me dinner.  I wanted crab cakes but the place they were going to get them were out of crab meat so I had brisket.  It was good but I was disappointed because they said they were bringing crab cakes.

Rose is at her guitar lesson and I think Shirley is with a client.  Martha's Hands is here with me now and comes to help me with exercises and physical therapy.

The weather is probably better today than it's going to be tomorrow.  Anyway, it's still cold and I've stayed inside.

Stephanie just called to tell us she will have outpatient surgery on Thursday for her shoulder.  She will have a repair of her rotator cuff, the tendon reattached, and pins in some fracturing.  That was one awful fall!  The recovery will involve wearing a sling for a time and lots of physical therapy.

Sunday Morning

The frost  is definitely on the pumpkin this morning.  Probably more so than the the last two mornings.   We're not sure what time it is around the house. Rose is going around adjusting our clocks to the right time and it will take us a few days to adjust to the change.

Pete and Janet called yesterday with their Saturday call.  I think they are more up to date with face book than I am.  I just can't get the hang of it.  Rose got her hair cut on Friday. She just couldn't  stand her hair another day. Through the Family Gazette is how we keep track of our hair cuts.  We usually have them at the same time but this time her hair grew faster.  We have the same hair dresser.

I've been trying very hard to do all my exercises as much as I can.  The physical therapist came and showed me in detail lots of suggestions on Thursday.  She will be back on Tuesday.

Saturday Morning

It's even chillier this morning than yesterday though we haven't been out to check.  There weren't many trick-or-treaters at our door last night since we live on a dead end street  so we have an abundance of candy this morning. I guess we'll just have to eat it ourselves.

Sis took me to my primary care physician yesterday for a regular checkup.  The doctor spent some time with me checking me over throughly and adjusted my medicines and took blood.  Things may change when they get the blood findings back.

I'm waiting for my Saturday morning call from Pete and Janet.  I thought I had lost touch with my GMAC friend but had an email from her this morning.  Hope to get more news.
